Approximately two weeks before an incentive program in Sydney, we were informed that 100 South American-based attendees had not applied for entry visas to Australia. During the cocktail hour at The Four Seasons Maui, our VIP heard about a guest who had performed a remarkable feat - biking uphill to the Haleakala Crater in Maui – and back down. With ten minutes to go before the Awards dinner was to begin, our client told us he wanted to recognize the biker with a special trophy. What could we come up with? Reacting quickly, we bought two decks of “Bicycle” playing cards in the hotel’s Sundry Shop, had them gift wrapped and delivered them to the VIP … just in time for the awards presentation. Story Two
We learned that a participant was planning a holiday surprise for his children and grandchildren. He would announce that he intended to take them all to Kauai for the annual meeting of his association. We volunteered to create a two special “gift” certificates that he could wrap and place under the tree on Christmas morning – a romantic version for his daughter and son-in-law, and another “kiddie” version for his grandkids.

The Blue-Light Special
The plan was set. The meeting planner brimmed with anticipation. Her VIPs would feel Very Important indeed. Sirens wailing and lights flashing, a police escort was to speed a convoy of coaches through congested city streets to their dinner venue.
Less than 24 hours before the event we were informed that the escort had been inexplicably canceled. Suddenly our client lost an opportunity to impress her company executives, and not a prayer of getting to dinner on time.
Reacting quickly, we contacted the Visitors Bureau and several local connections. Although the planned motorcycle escort had been disallowed, we booked two unmarked police cars with official-looking blue lights.
Instead of gridlock … nothing but grins and gratitude!

Fact? Or “Fish Story?”
We were in Gatun Lake in the Panamanian rainforest, in search of toucans, sloths, Howler Monkeys, crocodiles and other tropical wildlife. We’d spotted a crocodile earlier on the tour, but he quickly slithered into the water as soon as he heard our approaching motorboat.
At this moment, everyone on the boat was looking for monkeys.
Suddenly, someone spotted a crocodile! His giant head was not more than 20 yards from our boat. The naturalist guide “ssshhed” us, whispering how unusual it was to see a croc so close. Cameras clicked and videos whirred. It slowly approached the boat . . . close enough to see that there was a little baby crocodile atop the big croc’s head! “Amazing!” exclaimed the guide. People jostled for position to get a better photo.
Finally, a glint of sunshine revealed the monofilament line stretching from his jaw to the back of the boat . . . the “croc” was a resin replica. We’d ordered it from a pool supply catalog and carried it with us all the way to Panama – as a hoax. Needless to say, there were more than a couple of red-faced naturalist guides, who had been completely fooled!
“Crocky” became the group’s mascot for the remainder of the trip – enjoying a place of honor in the front window of our motorcoach. Everyone had a great crocodile story to tell when they got home!
